A leadership manifesto
FOR EVERY CHURCH IN EVERY PLACE
PREPARE
1. cleansing
The foundation for spiritual progress is repentance - turning away from those things which hinder us and turning towards those that help us pursue the kingdom of God. Cleansing and consecrating our lives is the starting point to pursue our call as individuals, leadership teams and churches. The spiritual health of our nation rises and falls with the spiritual health of the church.
PURSUE
FOR EVERY CHURCH
2. elders
Establish and grow a leadership team. Develop their role as governing ‘elders’, as well as recognising and championing their specific gifts such as pastoral work, administration or teaching.
3. sons
Identify and raise the next generation of ministry leadership from within your church sphere and existing relationships. Prioritise training, intentional discipleship and deliberate progression by giving generous opportunities to serve and lead.
IN EVERY PLACE
4. apostles
Find and respond to external ministry that can bring kingdom vision, revelation and counsel to your leaders. Recognise trans-local ministries that commit to working with your team to realise the mission beyond your local church.
5. city churches
Recognise and build the church in your region by committing to grace-filled relationships with the church leaders in your locality. Encourage, support and demonstrate the unity of the church through shared ministry and meetings.
PROGRESS
6. commitment
A vital dimension of Christ’s call to unity is a determination to stand against all that could destroy it. Our relationships within and between churches must be characterised by grace, honour and forgiveness. We must not allow any place in our lives for toxic attitudes or behaviours such as offence, anger, bitterness, or jealousy.
7. call
These goals are neither easy nor straightforward but there is a generous “grace for unity” as we build the church and pursue the kingdom together. This manifesto is proposed as a practical strategy for leadership and to support the growth of every church in every place.
Will you join us as we pursue the divine intention “that they may be one” and make this a manifesto for your church in your place?
